Ramblings, reflections & my life...
Hi my name is Marcos Kuhns, welcome to my website! I use this site to share my random ramblings, a few of my favorite photos and to keep you updated on what’s important in my life. From time to time you may even see a post from Beth, my wife. I hope you enjoy your stay at Kuhnsfam.com

Well I decided it’s time for another post of the randomness I enjoy. I don’t enjoy research papers… so here are some things I have been enjoying, lol. I’ve used Yahoo’s Launchcast Radio off and on for a while and for those of you who haven’t experienced the true joy you’ll definitely have to give it a shot! Unlike traditional internet radio stations with preset content Launchcast lets you create your own "radio station" where you can rate the artists you like and veto the one’s you don’t. Then launch chooses a custom mix of songs tailored to your preferences and even plays songs based on the recommendations of other users with similar music tastes! The end result, a stream of music that is surprisingly adept at picking out good tunes. If you want you can even listen in to my station if you want. The downside (and it’s a biggie) is that Yahoo is idiotic and only supports IE on PCs or Netscape running on Mac OS 8.5 or 9.22!! Oh and unless you pay "3 bucks a month" you have to listen to short commercials every 3 songs or so, but that’s no deal-breaker in my books.
[Edit] Apparently times are rough at the Yahoo ranch because they upped the price to $5 a month without my even noticing [/Edit]
On a similar, yet completely unrelated note I’ve taken my first baby steps into the world of wikipedia editing. I didn’t feel quite up to the challenge of writing a real article but figured I could at least start filling in the list of radio stations in Virginia since no one else had taken the time to do it. Yeah, I know, it’s not done so if anyone has the time feel free to finish that up for me, lol.
Oh, and I know I haven’t posted a full update on my Thanksgiving trip to Kremlin and Hesston but because I really should be getting back to work now suffice to say that the driving was long but the food, friends and relaxation were well worth it! I even have some pictures, hopefully I’ll run into some time to post them eventually.

Well, I just came to the realization that I need to finish my major paper for Marriage & Family class in the next 5 days so to get my procrastination off to a good start here’s a random factoid Did you know that when a whip cracks the noise is actually the result of a sonic boom? It’s true, the end of the whip actually moves that fast! Thanks as always to my trusty fact checkers: Snapple, wikipedia.org, and Earth & Sky. Oh, and it’s winter here in Goshen, time to switch up that banner again! Maybe I’ll eventually procrastinate more and make a new winter one, lol.

Tomorrow’s forcast: Mainly sunny and warm with a high of 82°. But wait, that’s the forcast for Rancho Cucamonga! Here at good ‘ol GC we had our first taste of snow today. Sad as it may be it looks like winter has finally caught up with us here. Speaking of winter, doesn’t that mean Christmas is just around the corner? NO I say! Thanksgiving is right around the corner people. Remember? That wonderful holiday jammed in there between Halloween and Christmas. Well, in honor of this great holiday I’m refraining from posting my Christmas list until it is officially the next major US holiday on the calendar This year I’m going to follow tradition and make my 4th annual Thanksgiving trek to Hesston, KS. But there’s a twist. I’m continuing south after the trip to KS all the way to Enid, Oklahoma. Beth has some family down there (yes, of course Beth’s coming along! :-D) so we’re going to spend a day or two down there enjoying food, family, games, and of course… probably more food. Anyway, I’ll give more updates as the time approaches. Oh, and no fear, I’ll let you know when my Christmas list does go online Well, it’s time I head off to enjoy the snow & 11 degree wind chill, wish me luck!

Another post-less week, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. I’ve just been discovering how truly time consuming it can be to keep up with an active online community. People posting left & right every day, shesh! But back to my real life for a little. This past weekend Beth headed off to a retreat with the MYF from East Goshen leaving me to a weekend of exorbitant amounts of free time. So I ended up watching college football and Batman Begins. Ok, so I ran to supper and still have like the last 30 min of the movie to watch but there’s just something about my personal convictions that keeps me enjoying that type of movie. Maybe Batman proves his moral "purity" by not trying to kill the bad guys but he certainly does fight them. *sigh* non-violent resistance just doesn’t make it to the box office very often.
Now a slight digression for the sake of fun links to randomness. Well, I’m starting an official PST match so until I get a personal gallery up and running you can check out the progress here. For those interested in web design the CSS Zen Garden is a MUST see! Makes me want to redesign kuhnsfam asap. lol, like I’ll have the free time to do that! Oh, and for the Photoshop lovers I just started exploring the wonderful world of brush collections! I must say Miss M. certainly has a cool collection (and links for further exploring). And to start the week of right try this on for an awesome idea. Take a roll of film, mail it across the country (or globe) and then have someone else double-expose all of your shots and post the results online! Well there just happens to be a forum where they do just that on ToXpose.com, gotta love creative people! All showing me up with their artistic tallent Ok, that’s all for now, hope you enjoyed the links!

Just a quick bit of fun to begin this post with. As I’ve mentioned before I’m been getting more involved in an online community of digital artists/photographers at Digikitten and recently I submitted my first piece! You can see the whole competition by clicking the picture.
Aside from online activity this past weekend turned out to be pretty fun. Saturday night Beth & I went to Much Ado About Nothing, put on by the Goshen Theatre Department. The play was based on the Shakespeare play and used Shakespearian speech but was performed in the context of a big game (eg tag, tennis, kickball). But that description really doesn’t do the play justice at all! The set was incredibly open and the actors used the entire theatre to act in including the isles. Leonato (Ben Jacobs) even gave me a shock by including me in a little audience participation!
Then came Sunday, time for the huge Goshen choir/orchestra bash. This year instead of traveling elsewhere we performed in Sauder and then performed in conjunction with the Goshen High School choir and orchestra. All told there were about 110 in the orchestra and over 170 in the choir! We performed the 4th movement of Beethoven’s 9th (aka Ode to Joy) and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Both are pretty huge pieces and having that many people in the choir let us make HUGE sound We performed the pieces twice the same day, once at 4 & then again at 7:30 so by the time the second performance was over my voice was nearly shot. On the whole tho it was a good experience and they are definitely fun pieces to sing with a live orchestra!
To end, a quick happy birthday to kuhnsfam.com. Now officially a year old, ain’t it cute! <:o)

Well, it has begun! Yesterday was my first day of my internship with Solution Source (aka CBSI) here in Goshen. I’m planning on working half-time this semester & next, then if I’m real lucky they might keep me on full time next year Well, let’s just say I’m glad I started on a Friday because I has SO much information overload in my first 2 hours of work that I left eyes blurred and head aching. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’ll be an awesome place to work & I know I’m gonna learn a ton but for a first day trying to sort thought several lines of code using programing techniques that are new to me was tougher than I expected. lol, after I came back to campus I had to make sure I didn’t let my mind wander to programing too much or my headache would start re-surfacing! So wish me luck next week as I put in 4 or 5 part-time days. Sure will be interesting to see how adding work to my schedule will throw things off… and just as I’m trying to get more involved with digikitten
In other news, for those in the Goshen area, don’t miss out on the Ten Thousand Villages 20% off "bag sale" today. Beth & I sure didn’t

Well, I finally gave in to temptation… I too now have an account at facebook.com. Up till now I had resisted membership on the grounds that I was sufficiently networked though online portals. I mean, you would thing that between myspace, a personal blog, xanga, collegefacebook (what a cheap rip-off of a scam), and blogger (which I never use) you would THINK that I would have plenty accounts to keep up with my friends and let them know what’s happening in my life. But noooooo, some "new" punk has to come along and build a new community site that catches on like wildfire. *sigh* Well, luckily for me facebook isn’t nearly as much of a scam as collegefacebook was and I’ve actually found a few high school friends there that I haven’t talked to in forever. So call me a sellout if you must but it’s a done deal and now I’m a full fledged member of yet another online community and lovin every second of it.
[Edit] In, um, honor of my plethora of personal websites I updated the About Me page with a handy further stalking section where I will list such sites. Enjoy!
Website of the day: Retro Junk Beth found this site last night & proceeded to sing along with 80% of the 90s TV show theme songs. For those who don’t know my TV watching habits, or lack thereof, I didn’t grow up watching much TV. This is partially because of living in Mexico 3 years during my childhood but also just kinda my personality. Sure I recognized some of the big shows like Saved by the Bell and such but really didn’t identify with much other than Star Trek: Next Generation (what a great show ) But I digress, this site has an amazingly huge collection of old movie trailers, TV show intros, and commercials! So for the TV lovers out there, go on get nostalgic.
