Video till you drop!

In case you haven’t been paying attention the past while, internet video is really taking off these days. While I can’t say that I’ve got loads of extra time to look up all the cool new sites I do enjoy spending a minute or 5 watching quick clips on Google Video or YouTube. I love the fact that I can see so a huge variety of clips in a tiny amount of time. Some of my favorite finds recently include an insane ping-pong match, a pair of Jay Leno Headlines compilations, some crazy bike jumps, a pretty funny 3D animation titled The Last Knit and of course an Apple commercial parody. My deepest sympathy to those of you without high speed internet. lol, although I hate to think what else I should be doing with my time these days.

Speaking of spending time, I’ve had a great succession of weekends. The 15th was the Nappanee Apple Festival, last weekend was the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale, and then this Friday I get to see Nickle Creek, live in Sauder! Apple pie, apple cider, bluegrass… It’s just really hard to beat :-D Alright, I’ve gotta go do some work on the site’s I’m being paid to make, but have a great week and keep in touch.

Haiku and a Time Fountain

Sorry to mislead you, I didn’t actually write a haiku, but I did join one :-D Haiku Learning Systems Inc Haiku Learning Systems Inc. that is. I have now been working a normal, full-time job for over a week now! Crazy hu? I work there as an “Application Developer” (or so it says on my business cards) which involves writing code as we prepare our learning system for release later this year. And I know, our website isn’t much to look at yet, but give us a month or three and I’ll have some really cool stuff to show off :-D So even tho work can be tiring and that whole full day of work thing is meaning I have a lot less free time in my days I’m still getting to hang out with Beth & I really do enjoy the work.

Now, about that time fountain! It’s creator, Nate True, originally titled it the Time Fountain by Nate True Time Manipulation Fountain and while I won’t go into details on how it works the end result is stream of florescent water droplets that appear to be frozen in time. While the photo is cool you really have to check out the movie of this thing because the effect is amazing! There’s also an interview with the creator that you can check out. Alright, I’m off to enjoy a lil relaxing, catch you later!

Downtown South Bend, who woulda thought!

To make a long story short, the trip from California to Indiana was crazy! However, my broken front windshield was a blessing in disguise Downtown South Bend Logo because it lead me to explore Downtown South Bend. Alright, so South Bend never really seemed all that exciting to me. It was just a bigger town down the road with a few more stores (and cheaper windshields :-)). As it turned out I had a real good time as I hit the streets while my car sat in the shop. I started my quest off right by going to Goodwill where I picked up a Dave Matthews CD for $2. Walking further downtown I was truly surprised by the nice variety of stores. Everything from a Chocolate shop to Idle Hours Bookshop where I found a first edition of The Andromeda Strain (Tho I didn’t buy it for $40) to a Cambodian Thai place that I am real excited to visit with Beth sometime! Downtown South Bend Logo To boot, there is a free noontime outdoor performance series through the end of September, so I got to listen to Kim Hoffman while I downed my Quiznos for lunch. The College Football Hall of Fame is in Downtown South Bend and while I didn’t pay the entrance fee (yeah I was trying to find entertainment on the cheap) I was impressed by the turf field outside of the place. I finally ended up at the South Bend Regional Museum of Art where I wandered their various galleries. While they didn’t have a huge collection, they did have several very nice pieces and you can’t beat the price (free unless you donate). By the time my car was ready I was very satisfied with my day of exploration and relaxation. So yeah, regardless of what it may at first sound like, South Bend really can be a cool place to spend an afternoon!
