‘Twas brillig, and slithy toves…

Here’s a test… from which poem did the title of this post come? …anyone? Before I just give away the answer, let me tell you a little background to the question. To tell the truth, I actually couldn’t have told you the right answer until about three minutes ago. I would have told you it was from the short story Mimsy were the Borogoves by Lewis Padgett, which is partially true as it does contain the first stanza of the poem. I read this short story a few months ago after Beth gave me The Science Fiction Hall of Fame. Mimsy were the Borogoves was one of my favorites, combining mystery, fun twists and even math, but I hadn’t thought of it recently until suddenly a movie trailer caught my eye as I was watching TV. Turns out someone in Hollywood liked that story too because they’re turning the 30 page short story into a full length film! :-D I don’t know what it is, but I just love it when I can make an association between something I’ve read & a movie. Like when the Butterfly Effect came out and I could say, “yup, they probably got their original idea from reading A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.” Even if these movies don’t follow the plot of the short story at all, just to know the background information, to have that little sneak peek into what’s to come on screen is loads of fun for me! So, I’m definitely looking forward to the day when The Last Mimzy hits theaters (I wonder if they know they misspelled the title? ;-) ). In the meantime you should definitely check out the trailer. Now, the part you’ve all been waiting for… the answer to my original question. The title of this post is the first line from the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Have a good one, and read more Sci-Fi! :-D
