Science Friday
A quick note first: If it’s been a little while since you’ve visited the wedding site, check it out. It’s been updated to link to several wedding photo galleries!
Now back to the science
I’m not going to try to compete with actual Science Friday, but a few headlines caught my attention over the past weeks. First off, Paul MacCready passed away on Tuesday. If you don’t recognize the name, don’t worry, neither did I actually, but it turns out he was an innovator in the field of human-powered flight and I had head of a few of his projects. For example, he built the Gossamer Condor & the Gossamer Albatross, airplanes both powered by a person pedaling as if they were riding a bike. The Albatross was used to fly across the English Chanel! He also worked on projects like NASA’s Helios. Cool stuff & an amazingly creative guy.
The other science-related link I wanted to pass on is a video clip. It is entitled “Imagining the Tenth Dimension” and I found it rather fascinating to watch. The first three minutes or so are spent describing the 3 dimensions you & I are most familiar with. But as the number of dimensions gets larger things get more and more mind-bending. So, if you’re up for some mental gymnastics and have some time to spare you should definitely watch it!
